Paricatuba Village lies in the municipality of Iranduba, on the banks of the Rio Negro, close to Manaus. Known as “the most charming village in Amazonas”, it holds a rich tangible and intangible heritage and one of the state’s most important historic sites. Over its history, Paricatuba has been an immigrant lodging house, a trade school and a refuge for people with leprosy. Today, among ruins, beaches and a community life shaped by the river, the village keeps its memories alive through the people who live, build and tell its story.

The name “Paricatuba” comes from Tupi: “Paricá” is a plant used in traditional rituals, and “tuba” means a great quantity.
